Some of pop music's biggest names took over Amsterdam on Sunday night for the MTV European Music Awards. Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke, Bruno Mars and Icona Pop all were among the night's performers. Katy sang her new single "Unconditionally" while hanging from wires high above the stage.
Katy took the stage wrapped up like a cocoon attached to long pink, purple and blue fabrics, which were bring manipulated by the dancers below her on the stage. When she reached the climax of the song, the dancers broke her free and appeared to float mid-air with the help of colorful lights for the final lines.
Katy also picked up the award for Best Female Artist, beating out Miley, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift. Before taking the stage with "Gorilla," Bruno Mars was given the Song of the Year award for "Locked Out Of Heaven."
Justin Bieber and Beyonce both picked up awards as well, and sent their recorded thank-you's to Amsterdam. Justin Timberlake didn't go home with anything, despite being nominated in five categories.
Miley made headlines for lighting up what looked like a joint on stage while accepting her award for Video of the Year. MTV didn't air the moment in the U.S. The star also got touchy with one of her dancers when opening the show with "We Can't Stop" and later performed "Wrecking Ball.
One Direction, Eminem, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis all picked up awards, as well.
