After years of writing the "Perfect" (pun intended) love songs for couples to dance to at their weddings, Ed Sheeran has his own wedding to think about now, because the 26-year-old revealed that he is engaged to his longtime love Cherry Seaborn.
Ed revealed the exciting news via Instagram with a Polaroid photo of him sweetly kissing her, and in the caption announced that they got engaged right before New Year's. He wrote, "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx."
Ed and Cherry (24), who is a risk advisory consultant, have known each other since high school, and in 2015, they reconnected while Sheeran was in New York, where she worked, during his tour. He then took her Taylor Swift's 4th of July party, and have been together ever since. He explained to PEOPLE last year:
"She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]. It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s 4th of July party. I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history."
Ed's hit song "Perfect" was inspired by Cherry. He told Us Weekly in March, "'Perfect' was the first song that I wrote for the album, it was inspired by Cherry. The line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favorite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s 'March Madness' literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn, which was quite a nice time. I didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her but she did really like it."
Like Ed and Cherry's cats, we are officially "chuffed" over this incredible news. Congratulations to Ed and Cherry!
