Teen Charged With Manslaughter After Killing BF During Failed YouTube Stunt

Police charged Monalisa Perez with manslaughter after the 19-year-old fatally shot her boyfriend outside their northwestern Minnesota home during a YouTube stunt gone wrong, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday (6/28).

Perez called 911 Monday (6/26) to report she'd shot Pedro Ruiz III, 22, in the chest. The couple was filming a YouTube video of Perez shooting at a book Ruiz was holding against his chest; Ruiz believed the book would stop the bullet, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities attempted to save Ruiz, who was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest, but he died at the scene.
