Raven Recommends: 5 Killer Zombie Movies You Should Watch, Like, Yesterday

AMC's The Walking Dead season 9 premiered Oct. 7, but if you find yourself wanting more blood and guts (because Halloween, duh), here's five badass zombie movies to quench your thirst:

1. Zombieland (2009)

What it's about: A shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting tough guy trying to find the world's last Twinkie, and a pair of sisters trying to get to an amusement park join forces to travel across a zombie-filled America.

Why I love it: The all-star cast (Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin) coupled with an original storyline, witty dialogue and a cameo appearance from Bill Murray surpass most horror/ comedy films and all zombie horror/ comedy ones.

2. Resident Evil (2002)

What it's about: A special military unit fights a powerful, out-of-control supercomputer and hundreds of scientists who have mutated into flesh-eating zombies after a laboratory accident.

Why I love it: Most zombie movies never acknowledge how a post-apocalyptic world came to be, but Resident Evil starts before the viral outbreak. Plus, Milla Jovovich kicks everyone's ass in knee-high leather boots and a red dress and it's so Girl Power.

3. 28 Weeks Later (2007)

What it's about: Six months after the rage virus was inflicted on the population of Great Britain, the US Army helps to secure a small area of London for the survivors to repopulate and start again. But not everything goes to plan.

Why I love it: It's a darker, more sinister take on society's effort to control and maintain a viral outbreak. Nothing in the film happens 'just because,' and nothing happens without consequence.

4. Shaun of the Dead (2004)

What it's about: A man decides to turn his moribund life around by winning back his ex-girlfriend, reconciling his relationship with his mother, and dealing with an entire community that has returned from the dead to eat the living.

Why I love it: It focuses less on the apocalypse itself and more on the main character's laughable relationship problems (disclaimer: this is also a comedy).

5. Train to Busan (2016)

What it's about: While a zombie virus breaks out in South Korea, passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan.

Why I love it: Think Snakes on a Plane, but zombies on a train. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
