The global COVID-19 pandemic left many people out of work, and others, such as grocery store workers, in the front line of the war against the virus.
Albertsons, the nation's second-largest grocery store chain, has sought to deem their employees as "essential workers."
Vivek Sankaran, CEO of Albertsons, teamed up with United Food and Commercial Workers to advocate for added protections for grocery store workers.
In addition, the chain temporarily gave its workers a pay raise and showered them with praise, according to CBS News.
The company is now outsourcing some jobs to gig workers on platforms such as DoorDash.
Albertson's confirmed that they are moving away from running the chain's own delivery services.
Company spokesperson Andrew Whelan said, "In early December, Albertsons Companies made the strategic decision to discontinue using our own home delivery fleet across a variety of market area and states, beginning February 27, 2021. Our HR teams are working to place all impacted associated in stores, plants, and distribution centers."
There are several Albertsons locations across the Dallas area that this positive change will directly benefit.
