Sam Smith Reveals They're Already Focusing On Writing A New Album

In the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball Mercedes-Benz Interview Lounge during the iHeartRadio Jingle Ball presented by Capital One, Sam Smith chatted with Elvis Duran about all things Christmas, their recently-released album, Love Goes, and new music!

While Love Goes was only just released at the end of October, the “Kids Again” singer revealed their plans for 2021 and it includes writing a new album!

“I'm writing. I'm always writing,” they told Elvis Duran. “For this next album, I'm bringing it all back home really.”

Smith explained that they plan on writing and recording their fourth album in the UK and it seems like they are taking things back to basics with a familiar sound.

“I'm just looking forward to getting my teeth into something a bit more soulful again, which I've missed,” Smith explained.

The release of Love Goes was pushed back but ultimately still came out during the pandemic and Smith opened up about why they decided to release it this year.

“It was hard to release this album this year because I wrote it at a time when I was going out dancing so much and everything was so busy and colorful and lively… during lockdown I was listening to the record. Then it just made me really sad. The thought that people wouldn't get to hear it,” they said. “So I had to trust my gut and just put it out there and I'm really happy I did.”

As for the upcoming holidays, Smith said they're going to go "full out" with decorations and look forward to some family time.

In case you missed anything, or you just want to relive this year’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball presented by Capital One, The CW will broadcast the event as an exclusive TV special on Monday, December 14th at 8pm ET/PT.
